FAQs

Our training sessions will run every three to four weeks (except December) and they will cover a wide variety of topics making full use of the extensive and varied grounds.  Each training session costs £15 per dog and runs from 9:45am to 12 noon (see dates page).  The training is designed with gundog breeds in mind and therefore concentrates on activities that use the dog’s natural ability to scent and retrieve.  Other breeds are welcome as long as they will enjoy retrieving and using their noses to hunt.  The training learned can be utilised on general walks with your dog to make their life more fulfilling and to give you greater control over your dog’s natural desires.

  • Steadiness training

  • Walking to heel

  • Whistle work – recalls, stopping at a distance, distance control

  • Retrieving – from developing an interest to advanced retrieves, use of dummy launchers where appropriate

  • Introduction to gunshot

  • Hunting – learning the art of quartering

  • Water work – from gaining water confidence to complex water retrieves

  • Introduction to cold game

What makes us different?

We only use kind, motivational training methods.

We aim to make gundog training fun for both you and your dog.

We welcome anyone who shares our passion regardless of ability or experience.

No intimidation, we encourage you to learn from your mistakes, not ignore them.

You will be actively participating in training nearly all the time, no standing around waiting ages for your turn.

Structured approach to all training whether you are starting from scratch or moving onto advanced work.

We are a non-competitive club offering quality training with realistic expectations for gundog breeds, whether a pet or working dog, or as with our own dogs, a combination of both.

We have the use of an extensive, private shooting and farming estate offering a variety of training opportunities ranging from woodland to lakes, rough terrain to flat pasture.

We provide helpsheets for the more difficult tasks enabling you to continue your training between sessions.

"I just wanted to say how much we have enjoyed the training so far.  Monty has a great time and is thoroughly exhausted after each session.  We really look forward to next month!"
